It is a traditional cultural festival popular among many ethnic groups in China and various countries in East Asia. The Mid-Autumn Festival originated in the early Tang Dynasty and became widespread during the Song Dynasty. By the Ming and Qing dynasties, it had become as prominent as the Lunar New Year.
